Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (JBCS)
Special Issue on Collaborative Systems
The Journal of the Brazilian Computer Society (JBCS) invites submissions for a Special Issue on Collaborative Systems. The issue will feature original, high-quality research on all aspects of the design, development, deployment, use, and evaluation of systems that support collaboration among individuals and groups.
Collaborative systems—often associated with the field of Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW)—enable users to communicate, coordinate, and cooperate effectively across distances and contexts. As global collaboration and remote work become increasingly central in professional and educational environments, the importance of innovative and inclusive collaborative technologies grows. These systems span a variety of sociotechnical domains, including work, home, education, healthcare, the arts, entertainment, and public services. This Special Issue highlights mature research addressing various challenges and opportunities in collaborative system development.
Topics of interest include (but are not limited to)
- Communication barriers
- Coordination and organizational dynamics
- Technology acceptance and user engagement
- Cultural diversity and inclusion
- Interoperability and integration
- Privacy and data security
- Evaluation techniques and case studies of deployed systems
- Ethics in collaboration technologies and responsible innovation in CSCW
- Applications in social media, crowdsourcing, and collective intelligence
- Sociotechnical studies of collaboration in diverse domains
- Training, education, and learning support systems
Submission Types and Review Process
This Special Issue will include:
- Fast-track submissions from the best papers of the Simpósio Brasileiro de Sistemas Colaborativos (SBSC 2025). These submissions must include at least 30% new material (e.g., new experiments, extended discussion, additional data) and will undergo an expedited review process by the JBCS editorial board.
- Open submissions from the broader research community are also welcome, but will follow the standard JBCS peer review process.
All papers must be written in English and prepared using the official JBCS LaTeX template (https://www.overleaf.com/read/sgfkmgfqzbdz). Author guidelines are available on the JBCS website (https://journals-sol.sbc.org.br/index.php/jbcs/about/submissions).
